Diversity is an indicator of whether people with differing abilities and values are accepted. It indicates the situation of countries that accept female managers, prime ministers with disabilities, and same-sex marriage.
Community means cooperative systems and society. The most small-scale community is a couple or family, but regions and countries are also communities. The indicator measures whether the community has common goals, interests, and motives.
People who belong to a community with the same interests feel a strong sense of happiness from it.
It is a new value outside of economics.
<The Correlation between Wealth and Happiness>
However, wealth does have a strong influence over happiness. There is data showing a correlation between the per-capita GDP and a subjective feeling of happiness. Until the per-capita GDP reaches about $15,000, finances and happiness are directly proportionate, but beyond that point, the correlation decreases. In countries that are economically mature, factors toward happiness other than wealth are operating.
Japan is already in the group of mature countries. China had the world's second largest GDP in 2014, but since their population is so large, the per-capital GDP is low, and they are still in the group where wealth controls happiness.
This is not verified, but it is said that if the per-capital GDP were changed to the economic disparity between citizens, the relationship would be completely inverse.
This disparity is likely a large factor in unhappiness.
<Flow Happiness, Stock Happiness>
Daniel Kahneman is an American behavioral economist who won the 2002 Nobel Prize in Economics. He takes a psychological approach and defined two types of happiness: flow and stock.
Flow is the type of happiness you feel when you buy something new or eat delicious food. This type of happiness peaks at the moment of the act, and fades as time passes.
On the other hand, stock happiness is felt when spending time with family or friends, or when helping others, such as volunteering. This type of happiness can be maintained for a certain length of time and can be accumulated.
The so-called Tiger Mask phenomenon continued for some time. Some people anonymously donated backpacks or pencil cases to childcare facilities. The person who experiences strong happiness in that case is not the child who received the backpack, but the person who gave the gift. This is also stock happiness.
